You have been often suggested by skin experts to add steam to your skincare routine. You would’ve also seen experts use steams during facials or skin treatments. A facial steamer is a healthy and smart choice. You should add facial steam to your skincare regime and it should be done once a week, advises aromatherapist and skin expert Dr Blossom Kochhar.
How beneficial is steam for a face?
Deep cleans the skin – Steam helps to open clogged pores and clean the impurities within the pores. It also helps to soften the dead skin cells, subsequently use a scrub or exfoliation gel to remove them.
Hydrates the skin – For hydration, you have always heard water is the best source. Steam is the vapor form of water that goes deep within your skin and hydrates it.
Increased blood circulation – Arteries and veins help in blood circulation throughout the body. Capillaries are tiny blood vessels connected between the blood and tissue cells. Steam widens the capillaries, which eventually increases the circulation of blood.
Releases excess sebum – Sebum is natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands of the skin. Excess sebum trapped in the pores causes various skin problems. You can easily remove this sebum with the help of steam.
Absorption of skincare products – During skin treatment steam is used in multiple ways. It helps in the deep cleaning of pores and the skin. It is also effective for increasing the absorption of products used in treatment deep into the skin.
Prevents untimely skin ageing – It is right that steam increases the elasticity of the skin by producing collagen but it also prevents premature ageing. Steam makes the skin more firm and younger-looking.
Soothes and relaxes the skin – Steam when taken in the right way can soothe and relax the muscles. Add some aromatherapy essential oil that will heal the skin inside out and relax the muscles. Make sure you go to sleep after this, as it will give a magnificent result.
Caution: Steam is suitable for all skin types, but for dry and sensitive skin it can affect adversely. Steam on dry skin can increase dryness and can lead to loss of natural oil from the skin.
